![]() ![]() Hope this gives you some guidance in what to do. So to me the memory issue that comes with Electron (and it has those issues whatever you might read) is no big problem when using 1Pw 8. So I have dropped Evernote for Apple Notes (and so on). I have checked the Electron based apps I have and deleted/quit subscriptions for the ones where there are decent native apps or even Apples own standard apps. That said: My only issue with Electron (which seems to be the big issue among Mac users) is that every Electron app has their own Chromium, they don't share the same. Secrets looks great, but since it only syncs with iCloud and does not support family sharing it is of no use to me. If you don't need to get access on Android, Windows or Linux, if you are all Apple, then mSecure is probably a very good alternative. I use 1Password 8 beta at the moment but also run mSecure v 5, since I want to see what their new v 6 brings. Has the functions I as a personal user needs, and the company has been around for long. Even when they go to subscription the cost will be around 12 USD/year as I understand. Would be my choice if you choose to leave 1Password. One-time payment but will go subscription when they release v 6. Syncs with iCloud, Dropbox and also their own cloud. For us the "Electron debate" is not relevant at all. Since we now can do all the secure stuff and because we are never, ever going to become "cross platform" there really is no reason for us to continue with 1Password. And I think that also many not-so-old households might want the same simplicity. I am old, so these practical things are relevant considerations for us to have. So moving away from "strange" interfaces, installations, updates and moving apps to new devices should be avoided if at all possible. But the other, very important person in the house is not an IT person. And one third party app less to install on new devices. But then we can password protect the document itself.īy leaving 1Password in favor of iCloud Keychain there is one app less to learn and update and pay for. Like storing a document in one of those locked Apple Notes. Yes, 1Password still can do stuff we can't do with Apple. Then secure notes can also be synchronized with iCloud Keychain, as I understand it. And it is going to be even better with next incremental MacOS update. Which was not possible with Apple Keychain until MacOS Monterey and IOS 15.īut now it is possible because we now can lock Apple Notes just as securely as we can/could with 1Password. ![]() We use(d) secure notes for things which we wanted to synchronice between all devices. So all our (200 +) unique passwords and secure notes and stuff are on all devices. We are Apple-only with iPhones, iPads, iMacs and Macbook. In my two person home we have used 1Password for years and been happy for doing so. I’m always sorry to see people go, especially longtime fans, but I also don’t think that shopping around and considering your options is a bad thing. This is one of the most common causes of compromised accounts. Pick something that will notify you when one of your passwords needs to be changed, such as after a data breach. ![]() If you don’t enjoy the experience or it becomes a pain to use, it may lead you to become lax in your security habits. Newcomers to the scene may appear good, but there’s no way to know for sure until it’s been tried and tested. Pick something that has a good reputation and that others trust. Be absolutely sure that you are the only one that can access your data, and that there are no ways around that fact. Pick something that protects your data with encryption and not just authentication. Pick something platform-agnostic that will allow you to use whatever device or operating system you want to, now and into the future. Only Login items are exported in this format.I’ll give you the same advice that I typically give people that are looking to use a password manager for the first time.
